First Annual Sushi Night 6.4.2009

My friend (and new roommate!), Ramzi, has had the idea of doing our own sushi night for awhile, and we finally got around to scheduling it. Ramzi has a fish guy in Lexington Market, (Josh Cho) who has excellent sushi-grade fish for really reasonable prices.

Ramzi picked up flounder, ahi tuna, salmon (pictured) and white tuna. Total cost was just over $100. Look how lovingly he eyes the tuna.

Prepping all the fish and sushi components. In addition to the fish, we also had eel and imitation crab, and shrimp. We also had avocado, cucumber, scallions, roe, and a lot more!

My friend, Megan was really good at making rolls.

We also did tempura using Korean sweet potato, zucchini, and carrots. We had shrimp and green beans as well, but there was so much food that we saved it for the next day.

Most people who came had an opportunity to try their hand at making rolls. Here are some of the combinations.

The finished products. I had a great time getting together with friends and making food. I also learned how easy it is to make spicy mayo! (Mayo, sriracha, and sesame oil) Can’t wait for the next sushi party! (Though I think I’ve had enough fish for awhile…)
